Bluesmoke website tips and ideas - planning.
If you're not sure how to go about getting started with you website read our quick guides:
Have a clear plan before you start
Look on the web to get an idea of which sites work and which don't, and think which sites will keep you going back for more. Then sketch out a rough plan of your ideas on paper so that you (and your website developer) have a clear understanding about size, structure, overall content, colour schemes etc. Trying to build a website without without any plans can be costly in terms of time and money and remember to talk about it with others who have websites.
Have a clear purpose in mind
Make a list of what you want your website to do and decide who your customers are. On the web content is King! Keep it practical for you and purposeful for your visitors, otherwise they will leave very quickly- better to have a site that that gives them what they want rather than what you want to tell them. Graphics can be attractive but can also add clutter and slow down page load times. Make the whole browsing process as easy, clear and informative as possible for the customer.
Finally - find a balance between what you want your website to achieve and what you can afford. It may not be the right time yet to have an ecommerce site. Judge where your business is at and where you want it to go on the web.
