Tawny Owl Movie Clip
How does an owl fledge its nest? Well on one occasion recently we had a front row seat as we we heard a lot of owl activity in the derelict property right by our house. After a few weeks of frantic to-ing and fro-ing by the mother owl, the baby owls emerged and fluttered down into our garden. They then waited motionless until dusk: (just click the play button)
The footage shows just one of the owlets(?) climbing the nearest tree in our garden. The mother then spent another week feeding the very vocal chicks before they disappeared. We often wonder if they ever made it to full adulthood, but thats nature I suppose – we are hopeful anyway!
