Can I Build my own website?

There are plenty of people who have successfully built their own site. However the learning curve can be steep, and you have to weigh this up against the time you have available.

The Basics
If you have the spare time and interest in building your own site make sure you keep the emphasis on content. Remember that most people browse web pages, i.e., they want to find what they want as quickly as possible; so avoid clutter unless they add something useful. Animated graphics can be a distraction and slow down page loading times, and they quickly look dated and tacky.(e.g., beware waving flags, popups and popunders that load automatically etc)

Simple Design
The old 'KISS' acronym is never more applicable than when you are building a website. Keep page designs text, colours all consistent -if it already works well on one page, why change it? Use web friendly colours, fonts etc and incorporate any content you already have.

All sounds a bit much?
To achieve a professional looking and effective website it may well be more cost effective to enroll the services of a web developer - remember that you will benefit from their knowledge, experience and advice. Your time also may be more profitably spent in aspects related to your business: updating the products, responding to customer enquiries and keeping the content up to date. However most web developers will be happy to do this task for for you also.
